Facial Drooping

During a stroke, muscles on one side of the face can suddenly weaken, causing visible drooping. One side of the mouth may droop when smiling, one eye might look smaller, or the entire half of the face appears 'melted.' Ask the person to smile — an uneven smile where one side doesn't move is one of the most recognizable stroke symptoms. This is part of the FAST assessment (Face, Arms, Speech, Time).

Pro Tip

Ask the person to smile. If one side of the face doesn't move, call emergency services immediately.
