When your liver is struggling, your urine may turn dark amber or brown, even when you're well-hydrated. This dark color is caused by excess bilirubin that the kidneys are trying to filter out because the liver can't process it. While dark urine can also be caused by dehydration, if it persists even after drinking plenty of water, your liver may be sending you a warning signal.
