Harmful gut bacteria and yeast (especially Candida) thrive on sugar. When they dominate your gut, they actually influence your brain through the gut-brain axis to crave more of what feeds them. If you feel physically compelled to eat sugar, bread, or processed carbs — and feel temporarily better after consuming them — pathogenic organisms in your gut may be driving your eating behavior for their own survival.
